Library
The Library of the Italian Cultural Institute in Montreal has about 6,000 units, varied between monographs, essays, journals, audiovisual materials, pertaining to different subject areas: literature, fiction, history, art, non-fiction, music, philosophy, religion, social sciences. In addition to book materials, the Institute has a considerable collection of DVDs devoted to Italian Cinema.
The Library’s catalog is available on OPAC (On-line Public Access Catalog) at OPAC – Italian Cultural Institute of Montreal (infoteca.it).
Access and consultation
Access is free and consultation is allowed on site in the reading room on the ground floor.
Opening hours to the public:
Monday through Thursday, 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.; Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Loans and services
Loan requests can be made on site or online from the OPAC Catalog.
The service is intended for the entire community. Materials can be borrowed for the total duration of one month for books and one week for DVDs, renewable for up to two times by phone at +1 (514)849-3473 or by e-mail at iicmontreal.biblioteca@esteri.it.
Lending Books in E-book Format
The institute also provides books in electronic format available on the MLOL platform (iicmontreal.medialibrary.it/home/index.aspx).
To sign up for this service, a request must be sent to iicmontreal.biblioteca@esteri.it, indicating First Name, Last Name and e-mail address. A reply e-mail will be sent with login credentials to the site and a link to use the service.
The system allows borrowing a maximum of 2 e-books per month. Each loan has a duration of 14 days, after which it will be automatically deactivated. If you haven’t finished reading your e-book, don’t worry: you can request to borrow the same book again.
