On the occasion of the 26th Week of the Italian Language in the World, the Italian Cultural Institute of Montréal presents a training course for Italian language teachers, focusing on the use of artificial intelligence in teaching Italian as a second or foreign language (L2/LS).
The course will be led by Professor Roberto Dolci and Professor Letizia Cinganotto of the University for Foreigners of Perugia and will consist of two sessions:
Introduction to AI: New Educational Ecosystems

Through an introductory session followed by a practical workshop, the course will allow participants to explore the main transformations brought about by artificial intelligence in language education and to discover tools and methods that can be applied to the teaching of Italian as a second or foreign language.

Roberto Dolci is Full Professor of Modern Language Education at the University for Foreigners of Perugia, where he is the Rector’s Delegate for International Relations (United States and Central Asia), Chair of the Master’s Degree Program in Italian Language and Culture in the Digital World (LiCIMoD), and Director of the professional development program for teachers of Italian as a foreign language. He has taught at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice and in the United States, at Middlebury College and the City University of New York. Since 2012, he has been a Scholar in Residence at the John D. Calandra Italian American Institute at CUNY. His research focuses on language and educational policies, the teaching of Italian worldwide, and cultural diplomacy. He is the author of more than seventy publications.
Letizia Cinganotto is Associate Professor of Language Education at the University for Foreigners of Perugia, where she is the Rector’s Delegate for International Relations and a member of the Board of the CVCL (Centre for Language Assessment and Certification). Formerly a Senior Researcher at INDIRE, she is a member of the Scientific Committee of the CLIQ Association, as well as numerous national and international working groups and scientific committees. She is also a member of the consultancy team of the Council of Europe’s European Centre for Modern Languages (ECML) and of the INDIRE Board of Directors. She is the author of numerous publications and books on language education, CLIL and language learning technologies, with particular attention to the use of artificial intelligence in language learning and teaching.
