”Anche i commissari mangiano” – Meeting with the Italian author Davide Longo

Davide Longo

In its history, the crime genre has gone from figures of dutiful and moderate investigators, bordering on monasticism, to those of unruly and inappetent investigators, who devote a large part of their nutritional needs to spirits. Finally we have arrived at policemen and detectives who are much more demanding and competent in terms of cooking, who happily attribute to nutrition the task of healing small and large emotional wounds.

This is what we will talk about: the connection between food, the investigator’s body and that of the crime. And why in a genre that deals with violence, evil and death, it is almost necessary to cling to something vital and primitive like sitting at the table, the territory that produced it, the tradition and the language that express it. From the Piedmont of Commissioners Bramard and Arcadipane narrated by Davide Longo, to the Sicily of Montalbano created by Camilleri.

The appointment is Thursday, April 24 at 6:30 p.m. at the Italian Cultural Institute of Montreal. The meeting will be in Italian with simultaneous translation in French.
