Assistant professor at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Federico Riva remembers his earliest close contact with insects. It was bumblebees, and he was three years old. Since then, his passion for insects and nature has steadily grown. He decided to devote his academic and professional career to species conservation. His studies led him to realize the degree to which land use, especially in agriculture, has a negative effect on biodiversity, everywhere on the planet. He is now driven by a sense of responsibility, as he searches for a deeper understanding of how land management might allow humans to use the Earth’s resources more sustainably.
