We are delighted to announce that Marco Armiero, renowned writer, essayist, and professor at the Institute for the History of Science at the Autonomous University of Barcelona will join us to discuss one of his latest works: Wasteocene: Chronicles from the Global Dump. In this essay, the author addresses a crucial and increasingly relevant topic: overproduction and transformation of entire areas into global dumps.
This event offers an unique opportunity to engage in a conversation directly with the author, delving into reflections on our present and the challenges related to sustainability and environmental impact.

Marco Armiero is an ICREA Research Professor at the Institute for the History of Science at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. He directed for ten years the Environmental Humanities Laboratory at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. He has conducted research at Yale University, the University of California, Berkeley, and Stanford University. He was also a Marie Curie Fellow at the Autonomous University of Barcelona and a Visiting Researcher at the Center for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra. He has published for Einaudi Le montagne della patria (2013), L’era degli scarti (2021), La natura del duce (2022, with R. Biasillo and W. G. von Hardenberg), and La tragedia del Vajont: Ecologia politica di un disastro (2023). He has been the president of the European Society for Environmental History since 2019. In Italy, he serves as a research director at the Institute for Mediterranean Studies of the National Research Council.
