“Kochan” – Exhibition

Thanks to the support of the Italian Cultural Institute of Montreal, le Rencontres de la photographie en Gaspésie presents an extraordinary photographic exhibition: “Kochan” by Alessandra Calò.

Kochan, name of the photographic project that Alessandra Calò began in 2016 when she discovered that the New York Public Library had put a large part of her archival documents online. You spend whole days in maps, manuscripts and letters. But it is from her maps that she is attracted to her and she, accompanied by their signs and their traces, she decides to combine them with a series of self-portraits. Kochan is a name: that of the protagonist of Confessioni di una maschera (Yukio Mishima, 1949). A sort of travel diary, which accompanies the reader to discover fragments of the protagonist’s life and identity.
