Five films could never fully encapsulate an entire culture, especially one as rich and ancient as that of Sardinia. But through the eyes of five of the island’s greatest storytellers, you will get a glimpse of the Sardinian soul.
The Sardinia Film Commission and the Italian Institute of Culture here in Montreal are delighted to bring these stories to the other side of the world.
Film is a magical and universal medium. It enables us to temporarily embody the experience of someone else from another place and time, uniting us in a way few other practices can.
From this island located at the crossroads of the Mediterranean and steeped in history(s) was born a culture, a language and even a mythology of unequaled richness that the five filmmakers attempt to capture.
The beauty, wildness and even cruelty of the landscapes inhabits the characters. It frames the gestures and conflicts and transports the audience to a space like no other. The island is embedded in every line of dialogue and every stitch of costume.
