After a harrowing and exhausting journey, many Nigerian women, increasingly younger, arrive alone in Italy in search of a better life. With a delicacy that spares us the unspeakable, the film tells the story of some of these migrant women who find themselves victims of trafficking and sexual exploitation. Thanks to a choral narration, the director introduces us to their touching testimonies, focusing on the stories of welcome, thus generating a broader reflection on migration and otherness, understood as a true encounter with the Other.

The director’s career is closely linked to Italy, where she has presented masterclasses and collaborated in Florence with the International Cinema and Women Festival, in Narni with Scenari dell’immateriale, and in Rome with the Roma 3 University. During her residency at the Studio del Québec in Rome in 2011, she developed a fruitful friendship with the famous director Cecilia Mangini and, once she returned to Québec, she organized a retrospective dedicated to this pioneer of Italian documentary. Other “Italian encounters” have marked the filmmaker’s path, including the one with the artist Paolo Ventura and the photographer Letizia Battaglia, both of whom appear in her film “Dans un océan d’images j’ai vu le tumulte du monde”. In 2019, a retrospective of her works was presented at the International Cinema and Women Festival in Florence, where she received the “Gilda” Award for Lifetime Achievement.
