On the occasion of the "Lisez la littérature italienne!", Samuele Ellena will present and host, in French, the book dedicated to "J’avais une île", by Lorenza Pieri.
Wednesday, June 22nd, 2022, 6:30pm HNE (Montréal)
Online event - Registration required
A small island off the Tuscan coast. It is there, in the 70’s, that two sisters were born, Caterina and Teresa.
In this island family the characters are strong, starting with Elena, their mother, nicknamed "La Rouge" for her bright hair, but above all for her political ideas. Vittorio, their father, leads his life as he sees fit, and their grandmother called Nonnalina. Catherine, her eldest, subjugates and dominates Teresa, who, to find her place, will have to learn to detach herself from her land as well as from her family. When she comes to adulthood, and the time for her decisions, will she be able to tame her childhood nostalgia for her future?
Lorenza Pieri was born in Lugo di Romagna, near Ravenna, and grew up on the island of Giglio. After studying in Siena and Paris, you worked for fifteen years in publishing. You have collaborated on several anthologies and literary magazines. She lives in the United States with her family.
