"The art and the science of construction" ̶ Pier Luigi Nervi | Exhibition

Date:

11/24/2021

Real master of artificial and industrialized stone, the "reinforced concrete", Pier Luigi Nervi (1891-1979) is surely among the most influential structural engineers of the 20th century. During his career, Nervi has participated in the realization of iconic buildings of 20th century architecture, such as the Sports hall in Rome (1958), the Palace of labour in Turin (1960) and the Pirelli skyscraper in Milan (1960). Another important construction, directly linked to Montreal, is the Place Vittoria tower (1964), designed by him in collaboration with the architect Luigi Moretti.

The exhibition, named Pier Luigi Nervi. The art and the science of construction, is an itinerant, lightened and adapted version of the exhibition Pier Luigi Nervi: Architecture as challenge, presented for the first time in Bruxelles in 2010. This exhibition will be presented at the Centre de design de l'UQAM from 24th november 2021. A local part of the exhibition will be curated by Carlo Carbone and Réjean Legault, teachers at the Centre de Design de l'UQAM. The exhibition is related to the documentation, analysis, and modelling representation of a selection of projects realized by Nervi, that testify to his atypical approach to design in the production of the constructed environment.
