Akim, Kiwi, Kush… two or three things I know about them. For a historical geography of Italian comics: the relationship with Africa, from the postwar period to today, conference by Alessandra Lazzari, Institute of Cultural Heritage Sciences, National Research Council (CNR) (#IICMONTREALWEBINARSERIES)

The Italian Cultural Institute of Montreal is pleased to present, as part of the webinar series dedicated to the theme “For a historical geography of Italian comics: the relationship with Africa, from the postwar period to today“, the conference by Alessandra Lazzari (Institute of Cultural Heritage Sciences, National Research Council, CNR), entitled “Akim, Kiwi, Kush… two or three things I know about them“.

Wednesday, March 24th 2021, 4pm (Montreal), 9pm (Rome)
Registration required

Alessandra Lazzari will talk about the way the narrative model evolves and with it the perception of the “other”: a strong influence of American cinema and comics, but also gradually a new look at Africa, that we can call literary, grown with Anglo-Saxon literature. At the center of the adventure comic is a type of character that is outside the ranks, the out-of-the-box type who therefore makes a completely different pact with the other. And finally a vision that is more attentive to the reality in which we all participate.

Alessandra Lazzari, archaeologist from the Ancient Near East with field experience in Turkey, Syria, Jordan, Oman, Iran, Turkmenistan. She deals with the computerization of archaeological data and the creation of databases; management of the archives of the Shahr-i Sokhta excavation; integration projects of advanced survey techniques, GIS and numerical models for the knowledge of archaeological sites; she developed a personal project on the perception of the exotic in Italian comics.
