The Italian Cultural Institute of Montreal is pleased to announce that this year’s the “XVII Settimana della lingua Italiana nel mondo“, will be held October 16th to October 22nd, under high patronage of the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella. The theme for the week of the Italian language of 2017 is very vast: “L’italiano al cinema, l’italiano nel cinema”. In Quebec, during the week cultural events will be held opened to the public.

- Monday October 16,2017 – “The travelling Genius”, Paolo Saporito – Amnesty, amnesia and censorship: the demise of the fascist past in the movie “I vinti” by Michelangelo Antonioni;
- Tuesday October 17, 2017 – “The musical pathways of the Neapolitan dialect between poetry, theatre and cinema”, conference by Francesco Palmieri;
- Tuesday October 17, 2017 – Screening of the film-documentary “MIRABILES. The Guardians of the Myth “(2016) by Alessandro Chetta and Marco Perillo;
- From Tuesday, October 17 to Friday, October 20, 2017 – “One, no one hundred thousand … theatrical readings” theatrical works by Luigi Pirandello;
- Wednesday October 18, 2017 – Valerio Zurlini’s Cinema of Understatement. Introduction to the Retrospective dedicated to Valerio Zurlini at the Cinémathèque Québécoise (October 18-29, 2017), conference by Giuliana Minghelli;
- Wednesday October 18, 2017 – Screening of the documentary-film “Blaxploitalian. Cent’anni di afrostorie nel cinema italiano” (2016), produced by the Italian-Ghanese director Fred Kuwornu;
- From Wednesday, October 18 to Sunday, October 29, 2017 – Retrospective dedicated to Valerio Zurlini (1926-1982), a forgotten master;
- Thursday October 19, 2017 – “The Life and identity of migrating: Italian imagery in the cinema of yesterday and today”. Interview with many voices;
- Friday October 20, 2017 – Meeting with the italian-Ghanaian director Fred Kuwornu;
- Saturday October 21, 2017 – “Italian Talks between Rome and Naples: Cinema, Theater and Poetry”, lectures by Fabrizio Intravaia, Giulia Verticchio, Francesco Palmieri and Alessandro Chetta;
- Saturday October 21, 2017 – Educational days organized with the Association of Italian Professors of Québec on the theme “Italian in cinema, Italian in cinema”;
- Thursday October 26, 2017 – “The Fascist War on Screen: Gender, Generation and Trauma in Post-WWII Italy (1945-1965)”,“The Fascist War on Screen: Gender, Generation and Trauma in Post-WWII Italy (1945-1965)”, conference by Lidia Santarelli;
The “Settimana della lingua Italiana nel mondo” is an event promoted by the cultural and diplomatic network each year in the third week of October, around a theme that serves as a guideline for the organization of a cultural program focused on the diffusion of the Italian language. The initiative was founded in 2001 by an agreement between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Academy of Crusca.
