The Holy Land has always been associated with imagery of a mysterious Levant, echoing religious and profane histories. However, the contemporary reality of these places is often profoundly different from this postcard-style portrait and deceiving to the expectations of modern visitors. Menaced by mass tourism, urban development and military occupation, the rich heritage of Palestine is now facing multiple challenges and an uncertain future.
Marco Chitti graduated in architecture in 2008 at the University of Ferrara. He is now a PhD candidate at the Faculté de l’aménagement of the Université de Montréal, a Vanier scholar and lecturer at the École d’urbanisme et d’architecture de paysage. Between 2012 and 2014, he lived and worked in Palestine for the Jericho Master Plan Project of the Italian International Cooperation Agency.
