The Institute, in collaboration with the Cinémathèque Québécoise and the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures di McGill University, is going to celebrate the art of the great Italian director and writer Luchino Visconti.
Thanks to his noble origins, ingrained in the Visconti’s family, he closely came into contact with the world of opera and melodrama, which deeply inspired him. He met important artists like Giacomo Puccini and Gabriele D’Annunzio because of his family’s involvement with theatre. He started his film career in 1936, under Jean Renoir’s direction, who infused him the realist basis.
Luchino Visconti’s works are based on a deep realistic analysis concerning ordinary life and its dramas.
