The conference will attempt to understand the role of the “East” in the work of Gabriele d’Annunzio. Intellectual curious and sensitive to cultural influences, D’Annunzio has developed its own reading of Orientalism, ranging from the Mediterranean to Japan. Following the plot of his prolific literary activity, the conference will go in search of traces of this path to understand how the exchange with other cultures has significantly contributed to shape the aesthetics of D’Annunzio.

Claudia Polledri, postdoctoral and in charge of courses at the Département d’histoire de l’art et d’études cinématographiques de l’Université de Montréal, she also scientifically coordinates the CRIalt (Center of Recherches Intermediate on the Arts, the Letters and the Techniques, UdeM).
