On the occasion of the release of the English translation of his text on the Italian colonial experience, the historian Francesco Filippi will discuss this topic during the conference with the Institute’s public.
Francesco Filippi will analyze Italy’s presence in north-eastern Africa, dismantling the myths, lies and stories that have nourished the collective memory of Italian colonial enterprises; demonstrating how propaganda, literature and popular culture have warped our understanding of the past and thus hindered our ability to deal with the present.
Francesco Filippi sets the record straight. Point by point, he takes apart the myths, lies and contempt that characterize the collective memory about Italy’s colonial past. He shows how propaganda, literature and popular culture have warped our understanding of the past and thereby hampered our ability to deal with the present.
Francesco Filippi is a historian of mentalities and author of five books including the Italian bestseller Mussolini ha fatto anche cose buone, Le idiozie che continuano a circolare sul fascismo, published in English as Mussolini Also Did a Lot of Good, The Spread of Historical Amnesia.
