La Bohème is an opera in four acts composed Giacomo Puccini. This masterpiece portrayed the daily lives of four artists of Paris in the years 1830-1840. The performance will feature several local as well as international artists from Italy. As the first festival to offer a free outdoor opera, Montrealʼs Italian Week honours tradition as the opera takes the stage for the grand finale of the festival!
In case of rain, the opera will be presented in Notre-Dame-de-la-Défense Church.
Gianluca Martinenghi studied piano with Piero Rattalino and composition with Bruno Bettinelli. He began studying conducting with Donato Renzetti and Giacomo Zani, collaborating for the direction of youth orchestras. He also began to develop his career as a musicologist, writing essays specifically about the piano for magazines such as Musica, Symphonia and Piano Time. At the same time he embarked on a career in the theatre, beginning at Teatro Regio di Torino where he worked as head of music, which enabled him to familiarise himself with the operatic repertory, assisting highly respected musicians such as Gianandrea Gavazzeni and Yuri Ahronovitch. Then for several years he worked at Teatro Massimo di Palermo, holding senior positions from 1997 onwards in the realm of artistic direction and general management of the theatre.
