The Italian group Kalàscima at the Orientalys Festival 2018

The Italian Cultural Institute of Montreal is pleased to present the participation of the Italian group Kalàscima at the Orientalys Festival, a musical and cultural meeting point for civilizations from around the world.

Saturday, August 4, 4:00 pm
TD Montreal Stage
Free admission

Captivating and energetic, Kalàscima is one of Italy’s hottest bands. This international acclaimed group meshes the ancient traditional dance music of Taranta (Salento, Southern Italy) with electronic music. Kalàscima feature many fascinating instruments (bagpipe, traditional flutes, italian organetto), a spectacularly vast array of percussion from South Italy and from all over the world, thrilling vocal and modern instruments. It’s the ancient that meets the modern and the result is explosive!

A free festival entirely dedicated to the meeting of Eastern and Western cultures, Orientalys, celebrates an avant-garde and open-minded Montreal. Every year, during the month of August, the Jacques-Cartier riverfront of the Old Port vibrates to the rhythm of daring combinations and shows that cross three continents, from the Maghreb to China, passing through Spain, Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Cambodia, India, Japan and many other countries of the East! Every year, the program includes shows, workshops, animations, exhibitions and activities for children and adults … all around a real Eastern Medina! In this place of sharing and exchange, spectators will be able to move around within a unique space, rediscovering the atmosphere of evenings spent under a nomad tent, negotiating a rare handcrafted object or taking advantage of the benefits of argan oil and black soap. Stands of exquisite gastronomic products and desserts will satisfy the taste buds of gourmets. Le Festival Orientalys was conceived and produced by Alchimies, Créations et Cultures.

The band will also be present in Canada on August 5th at the Festival Blue Skies Music in Clarendon, August 7th at the Montreal’s Italian Week, August 9th and 10th at the Festival des Traditions du monde in Sherbrooke and August 12 at the Festival de musique du bout du monde in Gaspé.
