The series of encounters entitled “The travelling Genius: Italians Art, humanities, science … in the world“, is a space for discussion and cultural dialogue that the Italian Cultural Institute has developed especially for young Italians in world. Italians who, beyond any orientation, are the bearers of knowledge accumulated in Italy and diffuse the following, even without their knowledge, a provision or a vocation of ancient origin: the generous exchange of culture, comforted by a keen sense of human comprehension.

«French Girl» is an international musical project based on the translation, the adaptation and the interpretation of the most famous neapolitan classic songs into french. The beauty and the melody of the verses of neapolitan songs perfectly match the elegance and magnetism of french language, sometimes making the two basic elements indistinguishable. It’s not only a musical product but a brand new cultural experience, that, from two different universes with their own identity, comes to a very charming result. «French Girl» arises from the will to surpass the regional and national boundaries of music, to make Napoli, once again, a world protagonist, with its unlimited expressive potential. Produced by Backstage and Koan concept House, the album has been performed by an orchestra of 13 elements and already been presented in Napoli, Rome, Barcellona an Montréal, within the festival “Nulle p’art ailleurs” at Tohu in Montréal. The realization of the album “French girl” featured some of the best musicians of the neapolitan and italian scene.

Witty, simple, malicious, joyful, Daniela Fiorentino in “French girl” materializes on stage to bring the audience into her world made of freedom, irony, joy, mystery and a bit of extravagance. Every songs becomes a story, an adventure. Our icon explores and sings Napoli and the world through her perceptions. So, for example, “Le petit pecheur” (‘O marenariello) is an invitation to make love by the sea and abandon oneself to the power of happiness; “Ici la mer est claire” (Marechiaro), seems a noir scene with an exotic-dark taste, ironically expressed in a crime jazz key. “Funiculaire funiculaire” is represented as an amazing surreal journey, on board of a new means of transportation. All the energy and life of the music hall is to be found in “La chanteuse”, where our protagonist in a broadway rock-musical style, after defying every preconception, declares she wants to be free and realized and cannot help talking about Napoli in her music.
Neapolitan singer and actress, with a strong international vocation, has built her eclectic career in musical theatre and live concerts. Touring throughout Europe, since 2000, Daniela continues to perform as an open stage vocalist with internationally acclaimed artists.
She has performed leading roles in many Italian musical theatre shows, such as, «C’era una volta…Scugnizzi», «Novecento Napoletano», shows produced by Teatro Stabile in Naples and «Edith Piaf: lo spettacolo» for which she has won awards. She has performed on radio and tv, recorded albums, soundtracks, and took part in «Passione», John Turturro’s film tributing songs and singers of Napoli. Daniela is able to work in a wide variety of musical styles and with performers of all kinds. The neapolitan song is central to her artistic path, whether intimate or revisited, as in «French Girl», an album of the most famous neapolitan songs translated and performed in French. She has brought her music also to New York and Hong Kong. Since 2015 she has lived in Montréal, where she is hosting her musical entertainment live programme at the italian radio and working on new multilingual concerts. With songwriter Michael Daniel Murphy she has released the single «Muse» «Mamie Montréal», for the documentary “MTL la plus heureuse” (for Mtl’s 375th birthday).
