Giovanni Perin & Christine Jensen

The young Italian vibraphonist, Giovanni Perin, winner of numerous competitions at the international level has, thanks to the support of the Italian Cultural Institute of Montreal and the Associazione Italo-Canadese del “West Island” Inc., his new musical project in collaboration with the famous saxophonist and composer Christine Jensen.

Captivating blend of original songs of promising vibraphonist and some standards from the traditional Italian American songbook and rearranged for the occasion. A versatile artist who is able to bring frenetic rhythms of jazz with a typical melodic research of Italian culture to give light to a harmony of colors and iridescent emotions with the help of an exceptional artist as Christine Jensen. Some of the great rising names of the Canadian jazz scene will enhance the music of the Italian composer.

Giovanni Perin (1987, Padua, Italy) started playing the piano at the age of eight. After a rich international training, in 2006 he began to specialize in the study of vibraphone and marimba. From 2010 to 2015 Giovanni resides in Berlin, a city that will mark him both artistically and humanly getting the diploma in vibraphone and marimba Bachelor of jazz Music at the prestigious University of Arts in Berlin. He has played and recorded with many musicians of international calibre and has also won numerous Italian and international jazz competitions. He has participated in numerous national and European radio and television programmes and has also been invited to many important jazz festivals. Giovanni has held masterclasses dedicated to vibraphone/marimba and improvisation on percussion keyboards in many Italian and foreign conservatories including Instambul, Camberra Sidney, Melbourne, Delaware (Ireland) just to name the most famous. The magazine Jazzit puts him in the top ten of the best Italian vibraphonists.

Montreal-based saxophonist and composer Christine Jensen has been described as, “an original voice on the international jazz scene…”- The Globe and Mail. She has recently toured her music internationally in India, Peru, Argentina, Chile, Denmark, Mexico, Sweden, Turkey, and Haiti. She currently holds the position of conductor of the orchestre national de jazz de Montréal, and is on faculty at University of Sherbrooke and McGill University, where she teaches composition and small and large ensembles.

The Associazione Italo-Canadese del “West Island” Inc. is a non-profit organization with no political or religious affiliations. It was founded in 1992 to serve Canadians of Italian origin residing in the western part of the Island of Montreal. The Association’s territory extends from the municipality of Lachine to the Ontario border.
