About “Fontamara”
In Fontamara, an imaginary village in Abruzzo, the “peasants” prisoners of fascism live under the banner of exploitation while their life continues amidst death, love and suffering. One of them, Berardo Viola, will be killed becoming the symbol of a rediscovered dignity albeit still unripe. Ignazio Silone denounces the injustices of this period by means of a writing that knows how to blend various genres in a single dynamic novel.
