“Bassano x Montreal” Artistic exchanges

BASSANO

Immerse yourself in the world of Elise Legrand (Quebec) and Martina Gambardella (Italy), artists in residence as part of the Bassano | Montreal exchange. Their artistic encounter gives rise to a sensitive research where dance dialogues with the landscape, visual arts, music, video, and circus. Together, they explore the permeability of the body and its capacity to allow itself to be traversed, transformed, and set in motion by its surroundings. A presentation shared with the Bassano community, to discover a process in constant listening and resonance.

The artistic exchanges offer choreographers and dancers a unique opportunity to further develop their practice, immerse themselves in a new creative environment, and foster dialogue between two vibrant artistic scenes.

Martina Gambardella trained in contemporary dance in Milan and Leeds, before continuing her artistic research in Berlin and London. Since 2012, she has been developing her choreographic practice while also working as a performer. In 2017, she co-founded the collective “Cavadoras” in Berlin and became an associate artist of CodedUomo Choreography and Research. Her solo Error#1, presented in residence at Oriente Occidente Studio in 2021, explores the relationship between body and landscape, the arising of movement, and the influence of the external world on the body. The work reflects on permeability and the ability to be touched and transformed, placing the body in a constant state of listening and receptivity.

The Bassano/Quebec residency exchange project is the result of a long-standing collaboration between the CSC Centro per la Scena Contemporanea and Circuit-est in Montreal, with the support of the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec and the Italian Cultural Institute – Montreal.
