Ecology, art, architecture and literature: these are the variations on the Urban Landscape in the research of architect and landscape designer Francesca Benedetto, where the townscape of the city transmits the memory and identity of the cultures that have lived there. Taking inspiration from the Constructing Visual Narratives of Place seminar, which she held at the Harvard Graduate School of Design from 2016 to 2021, architect Benedetto takes us through Italian landscapes enhanced in a contemporary key without any building speculation, but with structures immersed in greenery, giving space to nature that reclaims city areas. Photographer Alessio Pellicoro‘s evocative images of the city of Taranto will help us to explore the relationship between the city and nature, public spaces and geographical disciplines. Numerous projects produced by her studio YellowOffice relating to the city of  Milan  which will allow us to get to know and appreciate the Italian metropolis in a greener, more sustainable dimension during the meeting.

Conference in English

Francesca Benedetto (1981) studied architecture at the Politecnico di Milano and the Universidade Técnica de Lisboa. In 2008, she founded YellowOffice, a studio specialising in landscape architecture and urban planning, which combines research and design. The studio works on projects at different scales, from territory to master plans, public spaces, parks, pavilions and cemeteries, as well as objects, interiors, videos, illustrations, maps and development plans.

The recurring themes of this research concern the relationship between the city and nature, public spaces and geographical disciplines, always observed through the prism of the visual arts.
