The Italian Cultural Institute of Montreal and the Anthropology Department of the University of Montréal are pleased to present the participation of Elisabetta Lodoli, Italian director and screenwriter, in the Seminar “Violences Contemporaines“, created by Mariella Pandolfi, professor of Anthropology.

Thursday June, 14 1pm-4pm
Université de Montréal
Carrefour des Arts des Sciences, Local C-3019
Pavillion Lionel Groulx
3150, Rue Jean Brilliant
Conference in English and presentation of the 2 films

Two films by Elisabetta Lodoli will also be presented in the context of the seminar: Stolica/Chair (USA, Italy, Bosnia and Herzegovina, 2013, Prod. IES ABROAD, U.S.), an investigation into the changing conflicts in the war in the former Yugoslavia; and, Is it about love? (Ma l’amore c’entra?, Italy, 2017, Maxman Coop Production), a film that interviews men involved in violence against women.

The seminar “Violences Contemporaines” this year deals with the drama of violence, thus exploring the different ways of contemporary humanitarian aid and the multiplicity of new scenarios of war, in both cases giving back the vivid word to women protagonists in such contexts. A survey that divides the seminar activities according to four analysis paths: 1) the genealogy of contemporary violence; 2) the question of humanitarian interventions; 3) the sociology of war; 4) the voice of women protagonists in the face of the different violence suffered.
