The Italian Cultural Institute of Montreal, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the death of the great maestro, is pleased to support the opera in two acts by Gioachino Rossini “The Italian in Algiers” opera represented by the young opera singers of the Rossini Opera Academy, accompanied by the piano masters Alessandro Vitiello and Gianni Fabbrini.

The Italian in Algiers, a playful play in two acts based on a libretto by Angelo Anelli, was performed for the first time at the Teatro San Benedetto in Venice on May 22nd 1813. The score, almost entirely handwritten, is kept in the archives of Casa Ricordi. Rossini directed this work in Vicenza (1813) and in Naples (1815).
