“Gramsci Reader of Pirandello” by Yuri Brunello

Gramsci (1891-1937) was a faithful reader of Pirandello (1867-1936). He created different interpretations of Pirandello theatre during his theoretical production: the young Gramsci conceived an idealistic exegesis, while the post-revolutionary Gramsci proposed a materialist interpretation. In the Prison notebooks we can find an exegesis elaborated by the mature theorist of hegemony. Understanding what the theatre and the dramaturgy of Pirandello represents for Gramsci means understanding the articulation of Gramscian thought.
