As part of the exhibition “Italia è Moda”, the Italian Cultural Institute of Montreal will present the documentary “Grand Tour – Viaggio attraverso le Accademie delle Arti e dei Mestieri”, a journey into the education and transmission of the knowledge and craftsmanship that have made Italian fashion an internationally recognized symbol of excellence.
The documentary takes audiences inside the Academies of some of Italy’s most prestigious fashion houses. Established to provide advanced training programs for external students, these Academies operate within the brands’ production facilities, where skilled professionals and master artisans pass on their expertise, techniques, and values through a hands-on, immersive learning experience.
Through the voices of designers, instructors, and students, the documentary offers an authentic portrait of Made in Italy as an integrated system of creativity, craftsmanship, innovation, and education, while showcasing the diverse regional excellences that define Italy’s fashion industry.
Its title is inspired by the Grand Tour, the educational journey undertaken by young Europeans between the 17th and 18th centuries, during which Italy was considered an essential destination. This historical reference takes on a contemporary meaning by celebrating the wealth of knowledge, culture, and craftsmanship that continues to make Made in Italy a global benchmark for excellence.
The documentary is written and directed by Alessandro Manieri, with executive production by The Blink Fish.
The screening will take place in the presence of Clara Tosi Pamphili, curator of the exhibition Italia è Moda and Antonio Franceschini, National Director of CNA Federmoda.
