Political reflection has always separated the city from the forest, civilization from nature. In the face of the contemporary climate crisis, it is all the more urgent to rethink the very idea of the city and no longer build it in opposition to the vegetation and fauna that exist outside it. The conference and the seminars would like to imagine this new city as the equivalent for nature of what contemporary art museums have done for art. The future city should not only allow us to think and make man live as part of nature, but also think of nature as a profoundly historical reality, capable of contemporaneity.
Emanuele Coccia is Associate Professor at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales, Paris, since 2011, after being Assistant Professor at the University of Freiburg im Breisgau (2008-2011). He was invited research fellow and professor at the University of Tokyo (2009), Buenos Aires (2010), Düsseldorf (2013) and at the Columbia University (2015/2016). Among his publications: La trasparenza delle immagini. Averroè e l’averroismo (Milan 2005, Spanish translation 2008); La vie sensible (Paris 2010; translated into English, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and Romanian) and Le bien dans les choses (Paris 2013; translated into Spanish and Italian; German, English and Portuguese translation forthcoming). With Giorgio Agamben he edited a comprehensive anthology of texts on angels across the Abrahamic traditions (Angeli. Ebraismo Cristianesimo Islam, Vicenza 2009).
