Shlomo’s own narrative voice, taken from an old interview, guides viewers through his story, retracing the places of his life. An Italian Jew born in Thessaloniki, Venezia was arrested and deported with his entire family in 1944 to Auschwitz Birkenau, Mathausen, and finally Ebensee. He was selected among the prisoners to join the special Sonderkommando unit, a team tasked with working inside the crematorium facilities. A survivor of the extermination camps, he became one of the most important witnesses to the Holocaust.
