Bringing together a shared instinct for exploration, Valentina Magaletti and upsammy sculpt immersive, finely textured soundscapes where rhythm, sound, and space dissolve into one another. Crackling surfaces, liquid pulses, and fluid rhythms unfold in real time, blurring the lines between structure and freeform. Electronics warp, percussion breathes, layers shift and reassemble, creating a live collage of movement and atmosphere — both precise and intuitive. Their performance offers a first glimpse into their upcoming collaborative album.

Holy Tongue is a London-based trio that has carved out a unique space in the experimental dub scene. Formed in 2018 by percussionist Valentina Magaletti and producer Al Wootton (formerly known as Deadboy), the group later expanded with the addition of Japanese bassist and producer Susumu Mukai, also known as Zongamin. Holy Tongue’s live performances are known for their hypnotic intensity, often highlighting improvisation and reflecting their deep roots in experimental sound. Their ability to blend genres makes each show a truly immersive and distinctive experience.

As a world premiere, Hypercast merges experimental vocals, live violin, and AI-driven sonification into a rich, real-time exchange. Born from a SAT residency, this trio—Gadi SassoonPortrait XO, and synthetic agent 555n—invites audiences into a bold collision of human intuition and machine creativity.

Drawing from their album In uno spazio immenso, Abul Mogard (Guido Zen) and Grand River craft slow-moving, resonant soundscapes that strike a knife-edge balance between booming, operatic grandeur and soft-focus simplicity, illuminating the subtle outlines and illusory rhythms as much as the dense, almost overpowering textures. Their live performance balances weight and stillness creating space for each listener to wander inward.

For MUTEK Montréal, Quayola presents Luce, a new performance created in celebration of the centenary of Archivio Luce, one of the world’s most important historical film archives. In this piece, archival footage is transformed into generative, algorithmic paintings. Removed from their historical narratives, these images evolve into pure forms, animated by the interpretive limitations of artificial intelligence. The resulting visual landscape is both a tribute and a critique—exploring how technology reimagines collective memory, while exposing its fundamental inability to replicate human cognition.

Launched in the year 2000, MUTEK is dedicating itself to the presentation of live electronic music and real-time audiovisual performance, making it one of the rare outlets in North America for such innovations. After 20 years, the festival’s future-seeking mandate has matured—and while the promise has in many ways caught up with the present—its commitment to the ongoing mutations and variations of contemporary digital creativity remain, with its eyes and ears still fixated on what comes next.
