Antonio goes home to Sicile with the reputation of a womanizer. Here where only virility counts, Antonio is a model figure, and his proud father arranges his wedding to a rich heiress, Barbara Puglisi. Antonio and Barbara fall in love but time elapses and there is still no heir. Barbara understands, from hearing the servants talk, that her husband is not doing all he should and a year after the wedding, her family asks for the marriage to be annulled on the basis that it has not been consummated. This kills Antonio’s father. The young man eventually confides to he friend that he loses all his means once in bed. But a young servant reveals that she is expecting his baby.
