The Italian artists Giovanni Fontana and the VestAndPage duo at the Italian Cultural Institute

On the occasion of the Rencontre internationale d’art performance – RiAP 2022, the Italian Cultural Institute of Montreal is pleased to present to the Montreal public, the Italian artists Giovanni Fontana and the duo VestAndPage (Andrea Pagnes & Verena Stenke).

VestAndPageVerena Stenke (1981, Bad Friedrichshall, Germany) and Andrea Pagnes (1962, Venice) have been working together since 2006 as VestAndPage. They operate mainly in the fields of performance art, performance-based cinematography and theoretical-creative writing. Their texts have been translated into multiple languages and published in books, art magazines and prestigious academic journals. They take care of independent projects aimed at creating temporary artistic communities and are active in the publishing sector. They collaborate with cultural institutions, theater companies, humanitarian organizations in the field of education, with theoretical seminars and intensive methodological workshops.

Giovanni Fontana (1946) visual and sound poet, videographer, architect, polyartist for short. He is the author of numerous publications in traditional and multimedia form. Recent works include the radio comedy Le droghe di Gardone (2016) commissioned by the Louis Vuitton Foundation, the video-poem Poema Bonotto (2015) published on USB stick by the Bonotto Foundation and the album Poesia epigenetica (Edizioni Recital, Los Angeles, 2016). Theorist of epigenetic poetry, he is one of the main representatives of international sound poetry. His recent performances include The Liberated Voice (Palais de Tokyo, Paris, 2019), The Poem in Acts (Maison de la Poésie, Paris, 2019) and VI Performance na dźwięki “Bogusław Schaeffer” (MIK, Warsaw, 2019). Author of sound novels and plays, he has written for many musicians, including Ennio Morricone and Roman Vlad. Active in the field of visual poetry since the 1960s, he has participated in around 700 exhibitions including the Rome Quadriennale and the Venice Biennale.
