Genoa for us: Palazzo Ducale and the New National Museum of Italian Emigration

On the occasion of the Vicoli e Ruelles exhibition – set up at the IIC until May 31st – Franco Melis, fundraising manager of the Foundation for Culture based in Palazzo Ducale in Genoa and co-curator, will talk about the exhibitions and events that animate Palazzo Ducale; illustrating the history of this prestigious building, formerly the palace of the government of the maritime republic and the activities it now houses. Franco Melis will also preview the new National Museum of Italian Emigration.

A unique opportunity to discover Genoa with two of its key places, fundamental centers for all of Italian culture:

Palazzo Ducale, the ancient residence of the Genoese Doge which after a long restoration has been the main center of cultural production in Genoa for thirty years, organizing and hosting important art exhibitions, events and conferences.

And the brand-new Museo dell Emigrazione, housed at the Commenda di Prè, a building already known as a gathering place for pilgrims and a maritime station on the routes to the Holy Land.

Franco Melis, 58 years old, architect by training, with a second French degree in Museology at the Ecole du Louvre in Paris and a postgraduate diploma in general and museum education at the Department of Education of the University of Roma Tre. Responsible for sponsorships and fundraising of the Foundation for Culture based in Palazzo Ducale in Genoa, he was also Responsible for programming the exhibitions for Genoa 2004 European Capital of Culture and in 2018 he won the International Competition for Director of the Bard Fort in Val of Aosta. He has published some volumes and numerous articles on museological and didactic topics in Italian and French journals and has given lectures and conferences in Italy, Croatia, France, Japan, Lebanon and the United Kingdom.
