XXIst Week of the Italian Language in the World

The XXIst Week of the Italian Language in the World will take place from October 18th to the 24th 2021 and will be entitled “Dante the Italian“, this theme has been declined both in a historical-literary and historical-artistic key, through the use of the media, cinema, video and an artistic workshop on video.

The Italian Cultural Institute of Montréal, under the patronage of the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella, in collaboration with the TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival) and the FIFA (Festival International du Film sur l’Art), which will make available their platforms for the broadcast of works, will present in Québec but with a reach throughout Canada, the following cultural events dedicated to the “Supreme”:

October 15, 2021ZOOM platform – Vernissage of the virtual exhibition “Love moved me, which makes me speak – La comédie de Dante, 700 ans après“. Presentation in French by Prof. Paolo Trovato (University of Ferrara).

The exhibition narrates Dante’s journey to the Underworld through the pages of manuscripts and printed texts of the Comedy, to enhance the reception that this work has obtained over the centuries.

From October 18th (10am) to the 24th (23:59) 2021 – TIFF platform – Screening of the film “Dante, the exile of a poet” in Italian with French subtitles.

Fabrizio Bancale’s docu-film retraces the places of Dante’s exile, with testimonies, anecdotes and legends around the figure of the Florentine poet.

From October 18th (10am) to the 24th (23:59) 2021 – TIFF platform – Projection of documentary film “Dante-La visione dell’arte” in Italian with English subtitles.

An exceptional video on the great exhibition event dedicated to the 7th centenary of the death of the Supreme Poet. A 360-degree story of the poet and his work through the history of art between the Middle Ages and the contemporary age.

From October 20th to the 22nd 2021 FIFA platform – Screening of the film “Botticelli Inferno” in Italian with English subtitles.

The film explores the story behind Botticelli’s 102 drawings depicting Dante’s Inferno: the dark and unpublished side of the Renaissance artist is thus investigated.

The exhibition displays the 101 works by Dalì that translate the universe narrated by Dante in the Divine Comedy into images.

The Week of the Italian Language in the World is an event promoted by the cultural and diplomatic network every year in the third week of October around a theme that serves as a guiding thread for the organization of a vast cultural program focused on the spread of the Italian language.
