Italian Design Day 2020: “Drawing the future. Development, innovation, sustainability, beauty”. A conversation between Peter Bottazzi, scenographer and multifaceted designer, and Leslie Baker, creator-director (#IICMONTREALWEBINARSERIES)

Italy, with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism, has launched the celebration of the fourth "Italian Design Day in the World". The success story of Italian design, which involves artistic activity, artisan wisdom, experimentation and industrial innovation, was born in the 1950s with Bel Design and continues today in the recent creations that unite Italian and foreign designers in the name of made in Italy. It is a story of men and women whose taste for aesthetics is recognized throughout the world and whose ingenuity always contributes to the enrichment of daily life. This year's theme, "Designing the future", reflects the complexity and the need to safeguard the life of the world for future generations.

The Italian Cultural Institute is pleased to present the conversation between Peter Bottazzi, designer and set designer, and Leslie Baker, creator-director, together again for the creation of the play Skin.

Monday, November 16th 2020, 1pm (Montréal), 7pm (Rome)

The new performance titled Skin is an examination of the meaning of life, told through a visual, physical and aural landscape. Baker and Bottazzi will be collaborating virtually on the design for this new work to premiere in January 2021. These artists met in 1998 while working for renowned visual theatre artist, Robert Wilson. They began collaborating in 2005. This latest work will be presented at La Chapelle in conjunction with the Centaur Theatre’s Wildside Festival. Skin has been in development with Playwrights’ Workshop Montréal since 2015. Other developmental collaborations include residencies and presentations at Caminos Festival Toronto (2017), Concordia Black Box (2019), Maison de la culture Notre-Dame-de-Grâce (2020) with generous funding and support from Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, Conseil des arts de Montréal and Istituto Italiano di Cultura Montréal.
