“Raffaello 500: Maestro Universale” - Raphael’s dream

On the occasion of the 500th anniversary of his death, while we wait for cultural destinations to reopen and to be able to see works of art live again, the network of Italian Cultural Institutes in the US and Canada will celebrate Raffaello Sanzio (1483-1520) through several online multimedia initiatives, starting May 15th with Prof. Marzia Faietti, distinguished historian of Italian art.

Prof. Faietti will present one of the artist’s most intriguing drawings, known as Raphael’s Dream, a mysterious composition portraying a charming female figure seated at a parapet, two angels, and architectural fragments, and will unravel the drawing’s mystery and explain how this unique work of art enhances our appreciation for Raphael’s monumental artistic achievements.

The event will be moderated by Prof. Emanuele Lugli, Stanford University.
