Conference in Italian

The meeting between Francis of Assisi and the Sultan of Egypt took place eight centuries ago, in 1219. More than celebrating a centenary, the cycle of conferences, organized by the Italian Cultural Institute and the Center d'études médiévales of the Université de Montréal, bringing together scholars of various disciplines, all of high profile and international fame, wants to bring the public closer to meaning of this extraordinary event for contemporaries and for posterity, up to us. The dialogue, contamination and spontaneous transmission of knowledge between peoples and civilizations are constant circumstances, since ancient times. Not everyone had their own writing and often used writing systems of others. A suggestive case is that which Delio Vania Proverbio cleverly presents with the title: "Sapienza greca in bocca turca: il caso del manoscritto Vaticano turco 33 della Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana".

Delio Vania Proverbio, PhD in "African Studies" at the University of Naples 'L'Orientale' and a scholarship holder for several years at the Italian Institute of Philosophical Studies in Naples, taught "Ethiopian Antiquities" at the University of Udine . Entered the roles of the Vatican Apostolic Library in 2004, he was appointed in 2010 by Pope Benedict XVI Scriptor Orientalis of the same library. Among his many published studies, it is worth noting the recent Studies in historical Graphemics (Vatican City 2019, Studies and Texts 532) and Turcica Vaticana (Vatican City 2018, Studies and Texts 461).
