Cinémathèque québécoise
335 Boulevard de Maisonneuve Est
The film is in Italian with French subtitles

"The film is called 1900. But its original title, Novecento,"the twentieth century", seems more accurate since it is never a question here of the year 1900. This abundant saga begins with the death of the composer Giuseppe Verdi, January 27, 1901, and ends the day of the liberation of Italy, April 25, 1945. Novecento is a work of a crazy ambition, embracing a half-century of Italian history, social conflicts and struggle classes. A five-and-a-half-hour film in two acts (2:43 and 2:35), where director Bernardo Bertolucci performs a cinematic tour de force. This fresco on the outbreak of communism and the rise of fascism, which tore his country, rises to the level of a great literary or pictorial work. [...] "(David Mikanowski,, 2018)

Davide Pozzi, Director of “L'Immagine Ritrovata” di Bologna, a highly specialized film restoration workshop appreciated all over the world, that has returned to fans not just the pioneering cinema of the Lumière brothers, but also the comics of Charlie Chaplin, the Italian neorealism from Rossellini to De Sica, Sergio Leone and the spaghetti western trilogy, to name but the most famous. L’Immagine Ritrovata was born from a specific need of the Cineteca di Bologna which, in the early 1990s, decided to do restoration because it was dissatisfied with what the normal laboratories offered.
