IV Week of Italian Cuisine: “The Italian contribution to the development of taste in Canada”, conference by Fulvio Caccia

As part of the IV Week of Italian Cuisine, held from November 18 to November 24 2019, promoted by MAECI (Ministero degli Affari Esteri e della Cooperazione Internazionale) MIUR (Ministero dell'Istruzione dell'Università e della Ricerca) and MIPAAFT (Ministero delle politiche agricole alimentari, forestali e del turismo), the Italian Cultural Institute of Montreal, in collaboration with the Consolato Generale d’Italia a Montréal, the Camera di Commercio Italiana in Canada and the Institut de tourisme et d’hôtellerie du Québec, is pleased to present the conference by Fulvio Caccia entitled: "The Italian contribution to the development of taste in Canada", followed by an atelier on extra virgin olive oil from Calabria.

What is taste? How, through immigration, Italian cuisine has contributed to its evolution in Canada? The stages of transformation: scholarly culture and popular culture, with the example of Magnani and Montaruli for a politics of taste.

Fulvio Caccia is the co-founder of the Observatory of Cultural Diversity. He was one of its principal animators as well as its director (2007-2018). He is also at the origin of the web site combats-magazine around which was initially constituted the action of the Observatory of Cultural Diversity. Previously, he participated in the creation of the transcultural magazine ViceVersa (1984-1996), the Forum of Foreign Cultural Institutes in Paris (FICEP) whose manifesto he wrote, and, more recently, Linguafranca, a transnational literary agency. He runs the literary and television magazine " République métisse (Vià93)" and the blog www.fulvio-caccia.com. Fulvio Caccia has published five novels including Un été catalan (Balzac 2018), a collection of short stories and six books of poetry including Italie et autres voyages, a co-edition Noroît / Bruno Doucey publisher and Aknos, (Guernica editions) crowned by the award of the Governor-General of Canada in 1994. His latest essay, Diversité culturelle: vers l’état-culture (Laborintus, 2018) summarizes his experience and his reflections on this theme.
