Conference in Italian

The meeting between Francis of Assisi and the Sultan of Egypt took place eight centuries ago, in 1219. More than celebrating a centenary, the cycle of conferences, conceived by the Italian Cultural Institute and by the Center d'études médiévales of the Université de Montréal, bringing together scholars of various disciplines, all of high profile and international fame, wants to bring the public closer to the meaning of this extraordinary event for contemporaries and posterity. Federico II of Svevia and Francis of Assisi are perfectly contemporary: both hold the birth of Italian literature, both are confronted with the East, but instead of going crusaders they choose dialogue and encounter. In the face of diversity, they favor culture and the gaze, the word instead of the sword.

Giuseppina Brunetti, Romance philologist formed at the University of Rome "La Sapienza", is known for his discoveries of ancient Italian texts, with particular reference to the Sicilian poetic school, and for the theoretical reflection and the editorial care dedicated to medieval autographs of Romance area (Autografi francesi medievali, Rome, Viella, 2014). Director of the “CESBI-Centro di Studi su Benvenuto da Imola” and of the "Philologically." Novel and Romance studies ". Is Ordinary Member of the Center for Contemporary Poetry of the University of Bologna. Engaged in national and international research projects, she is the author of numerous publications; has received several awards and recognitions from prestigious centers and “Dotation Intérnational J.M. Herman / International Herman’s Grant ”and, for her discoveries of ancient Italian texts, received the Akademie deutsch-italienischer Studien Award.
