“Don Pasquale” by Gaetano Donizetti

L’Opéra Immédiat  with the support of the Italian Cultural Institute of Montreal, will present a memorable performance of the famous Don Pasquale by Gaetano Donizetti.

“Don Pasquale” is an opera buffa, in three acts by Gaetano Donizetti with an Italian libretto completed largely by Giovanni Ruffini as well as the composer. It was based on a libretto by Angelo Anelli for Stefano Pavesi’s opera Ser Marcantonio written in 1810[. The opera was first performed on January 3 1843 by the Théâtre-Italien at the Salle Ventadour in Paris with an exceptional cast formed by Giulia Grisi (Norina), Luigi Lablache (Don Pasquale), Antonio Tamburini (Malatesta) and Mario (Ernesto). The first performance in Italy was at La Scala, Milan on April 17 1843 with Ottavia Malvani (Norina), Napoleone Rossi (Pasquale), Leone Corelli (Ernesto), and Achille De Bassini (Malatesta).

The Opera Immédiat  was founded in September 2009 by the soprano and conductor Sophie De Cruz, also thanks to the collaboration of well-known professionals of the classical music world, such as the pianist Dominic Boulianne, Mathieu Guertin, director of productions 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 , François Racine, director, collaborator in 2012-2013, Fanny Gilbert-Collet for the staging of the 2013 production, Nathalie Deschamps for the production of April 2014, Frédéric-Antoine Guimond for the production of October 2014 and that of April 2015. L’Elisir d’Amore was staged in April 2016 by Sophie DeCruz.
