Italian National Day 2017

The Consulate General of Italy in Montreal is pleased to invite Italian citizens, Italian-Canadians and friends both from Quebec and the rest of Canada to the Italian National Day celebrations, to be held on June 4th, 2017, at 6pm at the Saputo Stadium in Montreal (gates will be opened at 5:30pm)

During the 375th anniversary of the founding of Montreal, the major celebration for Italians will be a grand event, hosting friends from Montreal, Quebec and Canada. If Montreal has developed into the world-class, prosperous and welcoming city that we know, it is due to the undeniable contribution of those Italians who, over the years, have donated their intelligence, creativity, business sense and hard work. In this sense, our National Day is also a celebration of Montreal. As Italians, we have decided to invite a “piece” of the peninsula to represent the entirety of our country. The City of Bologna will be our “guest of honour” this year! Bologna shares much with Montreal. Both cities are famous for their universities (Bologna’s “Alma Mater” being the oldest in the world). Both cities share an important industrial vocation and provide a fertile environment for start-up businesses and creative initiatives. Bologna and Montreal share a passion for engines, racing, cars and motorcycles; both are characterized by the appreciation of good living and are recognized as gastronomic capitals. Bologna and Montreal are welcoming cities, united in the belief that we can all live together in harmony. The mayors of both cities, his Honour Virginio Merola of Bologna and his Honor Denis Coderre will be guests at the celebration.

Festivities will include a rich programme which highlights the values and fundamental elements of Italian culture and identity, a world heritage. The celebrations will conclude with a special guest, Antonello Venditti, a major star of the Italian music scene, who has generously accepted our invitation to perform for all Montrealers and highlight “La Festa della Repubblica”. Food tasting of Italian products will be offered to all. Access to the Saputo Stadium, a symbolic icon of soccer, the sport which unites all Italians, is complementary but must be accompanied by tickets.
